"Hey Tubby".
"Gordo".
"Are you sure there aren't twins in there"
The above comments are ones that I get almost on a daily basis, though they differ from person to person. These comments aren't from strangers, though that my soften the blow a bit because I could totally (and have in the past) be a huge biotch to the commenter. These comments are from people I know and interact with everyday.
Look, I'm a sensitive person... and not just because I'm pregnant. I take things to heart and I let things hurt me. I do not have a thick outer shell.
Do they think that just because I'm pregnant I won't mind the outrageous things that they say to me? Would they say them if I wasn't pregnant? Is it because they think they are funny and are using my feelings at the expense of their own?
I'm guessing it is the latter. They maybe don't know what to say to me or want to be center of attention or something. And for that I say: I'm sorry I'm stealing your fucking thunder you asshole(s). I don't mind if you want to talk about the baby, but maybe start the conversation off with a "how are you feeling", or something as polite. "Hey Tubby" sure as hell isn't going to get me engaged into that conversation now is it?
I'm trying to cook a baby here and not be annoying about it. I don't bombard you with ultrasound pictures, or updates of what I'm feeling or anything else about my pregnancy so if you want to be a rude jackass PLEASE stay out of my business.
What ever happened to the old rule: If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all!
Maternity leave starts in just 15 glorious, magnificent, beautiful days. Thank you God.
